Construction Debris Removal in Madison

Updated

Short answer

Construction debris removal costs $100 to $800 per truckload in national guides. In Dane County, loads at the C&D Recycling Facility must be at least 50% recyclable and cost $58 per ton ($14.50 up to 500 pounds) in 2026. Madison requires projects worth more than $20,000 to recycle their building debris.

Dane County's C&D facility

The 28,650-square-foot Construction and Demolition Recycling Facility at the Dane County Landfill, 7102 Maahic Way, weighs loads in and out at the scale house. Recyclable C&D is clean wood (no paint, stain or pressure treatment), metal, cardboard and aggregate (brick, concrete, rock, stone); sorted asphalt shingles go elsewhere on site at $65 per ton. Drywall, carpet, furniture and railroad ties are landfill items, not C&D recycling.

Madison's rule

The city's Recyclopedia states that by ordinance all projects with a value of more than $20,000 must recycle their building material debris. Lumber and fencing are not brush and cannot go in a brush pile; they go on a large item work order or to a drop-off site.

Asbestos

Not something a junk crew hauls. The county landfill takes asbestos only on the first Wednesday of each month, 7am to 1pm, with a special waste form, at $82.10 per ton.
