Hoarding Cleanout in Madison, WI

Updated

Short answer

A hoarding cleanout is priced like any junk job, by volume and labor, but it runs over several truckloads and more hours of sorting. National guides put a full truckload at $400 to $800. Biohazards, pests and structural damage go to specialists; a junk crew handles the contents.

How it is scoped

A walk-through or a set of photos per room, a plan for what the family wants found (documents, photos, cash, keepsakes), and an agreement on what is donated. The quote is usually given in truckloads, so it can be checked against the load table.

What a junk crew does not do

  • Biohazard cleanup and sanitizing (a specialist service).
  • Paint, chemicals and other hazardous products: Dane County Clean Sweep.
  • Asbestos: accepted only at the Dane County Landfill on the first Wednesday of the month with a special waste form.

Discretion

Unmarked trucks and phone-first communication are reasonable things to ask for when you request a quote. In Madison, a large pile left at the curb past its pickup week can trigger a Building Inspection complaint, which is one more reason to haul instead of set out.

Common questions

Hoarding Cleanout: questions

How much does a hoarding cleanout cost?

It depends on volume and hours. We don't quote a national hoarding average because the guides we found are more than a year old; use the load table (a full truck is $400 to $800 nationally) and ask for a walk-through quote.
