Construction Debris Recycling in Madison and Dane County
Updated
Short answer
Madison's Recyclopedia says that by ordinance, projects worth more than $20,000 must recycle their building material debris. The Dane County C&D Recycling Facility takes loads that are at least 50% recyclable at $58 per ton ($14.50 up to 500 pounds) in 2026.

- Recyclable: clean wood (no paint, stain or pressure treatment), metal, cardboard, aggregate (brick, concrete, rock, stone, porcelain tile), vinyl siding.
- Separate on site: sorted asphalt shingles ($65 per ton) and tires.
- Not C&D recycling: appliances, yard waste, bulbs, hazardous material, railroad ties, wood with metal attached, drywall, carpet, furniture.
- The facility is a public-private partnership with Lakeshore Recycling Systems, renovated in 2016, sorting over 350 tons a day.
Quick answers
Does drywall count as recyclable at the Dane County C&D facility?
No. Its flyer lists drywall with carpet and furniture as landfill disposal, not C&D recycling.
Rather not haul it yourself?
Tell us what needs to go and where. A local crew sorts the recycling, donation and landfill streams for you and replies with a price first.
