Appliance Recycling Around Dane County (Washers, Dryers, Stoves)

Updated

Short answer

Appliances without refrigerant are recycled as metal. The Dane County Landfill takes stoves, washers, dishwashers and dryers for metal recycling; Sun Prairie, Verona and the Town of Medina take appliances at their own sites; and Madison collects them by work order.

By place

  • Madison: work order or drop-off; $35 only for private-recycling homes.
  • Sun Prairie: non-refrigerant appliances at the Recycle Center, 1798 S. Bird St, with a permit.
  • Verona: appliances to the Public Works drop-off site.
  • Town of Medina: a yellow scrap-metal dumpster at the town site, doors and lids off.
  • Fitchburg: $56 for a washer, dryer, stove, dishwasher or water heater (Pellitteri, 2025).
  • Stoughton: appliances, refrigerant units included, on a monthly Johns Disposal bulk pickup.
  • McFarland: appliances are excluded from the village's free large-item weeks.
